Using Mobile Phones

Surprise your students by asking them to get out their mobile phones. How many students have them? Make them the focal point of the conversation.Working in pairs or small groups, ask the students to tell each other about the particular model they own and what they like / don't like about it. Here are some more questions they can ask/answer:
  • What features does your phone have? (games / voice recorder / camera / etc.)
  • What's different about this model and the last one you had?
  • Does the type of phone someone has tell you something about a person?
  • How much money do you typically spend on your mobile per month?
  • Do you like sending/receiving text messages?
  • Do you know of any typical abbreviations in English used when people send text messages?
